Outside of the piano lessons in NYC, practice on your own can always be helpful. Whether you rent or buy one, pianos can be found all over the Big Apple for your viewing or playing pleasure.

Here are a few stores around NYC where pianos are the main focus:

1. Manny’s Music (156 West 48th Street, Manhattan) – This place is like the Macy’s of musical instruments. Since 1935, this place has been selling and renting top quality products to musicians of all shapes and sides. And it must be old because its website simply tells you the address and that’s it. You’ll have to practice the age-old interaction known as “talking in person” here.

2. Absolute Piano (1646 Park Avenue, Manhattan) – This Uptown store has an array of options to choose from when it comes to the keyboard. You can sample all the pianos there, buy from an inventory of beautiful ivories or, for much less money, rent them. Absolute Piano also offers tune-ups and repairs, so this place has everything covered.

3. ProPiano (85 Jane Street, Manhattan) – ProPiano has been deep in the West Village since 1965 – the glory days of jazz and rock & roll. What is unique about this place is that it offers piano moving. Say you’re moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn or vice versa and have a 500 pound piano you want to move. ProPiano is on it. Also, they sell used pianos and a whole bunch of new Steinways. Check it out.

4. Steinway & Sons (1 Steinway Place, Long Island City, Queens) – What’s cooler than a store that names itself and sells pianos named after the road it’s on? Steinway & Sons, located on Steinway street, are the original creators of Steinway pianos. So they must be doing something right. They also sell a bunch of other piano-related gear, like sheet music for your iPad, and offer a full time restoration center if you want to bring a piano back to life.

With these in hand, the piano lessons in NYC will be backed up with professional stores to further your grasp on the instrument.
