Belly Dancing

Belly Dance is also known as Western or Middle Eastern Dance as it draws roots from the West Asian countries. This Romantic dance gained popularity in 18th and 19th centuries during the Ottoman Empire. Belly dance gained momentum when dancers performed World Fairs to enthusiastic audiences. Belly dancing style differs by country and region. The contemporary form of belly dance is usually performed by women, but originally males were also involved.
Belly dancing is a dance where each and every body part has its role to play, but the most significant part is usually the hips. Most of the dance movements involves separating different parts of the body including hips, shoulders, chest, stomach that are often driven differently. Most of the focus of the dance is on the pelvic area. This is a unique dance style with an upright posture and muscle control, which is very important in belly dance.
This unique kind of dance requires special outfits. A top and skirt or harem pants and a special hip-fitted glossy belt is an example of a perfect outfit for performance. The top and belt are often accented by decorative beads, braids, and embroidery.
In the USA, belly dancing arrived in 1983 through the world fair. Gradually it gained popularity here, and now is very well appreciated.
