How to Tutor a Tutor

Redefining the tutoring process!

Redefining the tutoring process!

You may have come across many tips being offered to tutors to teach their students. But have you ever heard about a tutor tutoring another tutor. You may feel surprised. But it is equally true. It is because a tutor starts his teaching career by getting trained under another tutor or by working with him. We suggest some points for a tutor who is tutoring another tutor.

A tutor must instruct another tutor about the subject matter he has to teach. He or she must outline the various topics which require special attention. He must also inform a new tutor about any changes in the previous syllabus and make him aware of the recent updates.

The new tutor must also be instructed to give practical examples to the students so as to make things more clear to them.

Apart from this, he or she must inform the new tutor that besides academics, he or she will have to get linked with students on personal level also. It is because all students are not equal. Some students understand better in a formal way while some others understand better in an informal way.

The new tutor must be instructed to understand the behavior and psychology of the students. Some students are extroverts while some others are shy in nature. So he or she must act according to the nature and psychology of students.

This way an expert tutor can train another expert tutor in the art of teaching.

Clarifying the concept of tutoring!

Being a parent/guardian of a child, you may find that your child is not doing well in his or her academics. Therefore, you may want to get help from a tutor to improve your child’s grades. However, it may be the case that your child may be hesitant in taking help from a tutor as he or she may feel bad about it. In such a situation, you should follow some tips to convince your child to be excited about tutoring.

First of all talk to your child about his or her falling grades and discuss improving them by getting help from a tutor. While discussing the benefits of tutoring with your child, be careful to use positive words and statements and avoid using negative terms.
You may also convince your child about tutoring by sharing your own story of having tutoring help in your school days. It will make your child feel more secure about tutoring.

You should sit with your child and share information about the concept of tutoring and its benefits. You may give examples of some brilliant students from his or her school who have done well with tutoring help.

You may also set some goals; and promise a reward of his or her choice on accomplishment of those goals by accepting the tutor’s help.

What to Do When Your 1st Grader is Not on Track?

Tutoring to improve grades!

Tutoring to improve grades!

Is your first grader child not doing well in his or her academics? Lagging behind other students? It is a cause of great worry for parents. It is because from the lower grades the foundation of studies of a child is laid. When children do not perform well in lower grades, then parents start worrying about their future. But parents are advised not to lose patience and behave in a friendly manner even in such a situation.

You may feel that your child is too young to talk about grades, but still you must talk to your child about his or her grades. Maybe the child has some difficulty in understanding concepts from his or her teacher in the classroom for some specific reason.

If the child shares his or her problem with you, try to solve it by talking to his or her class teacher and evaluate his or her performance in the subsequent tests.

If the child is still not improving then you must take help from a tutor. For this, first of all find out the subject in which he or she is lagging behind. Then concentrate on particular area of the subject matter so that you may ask the tutor to focus on that particular area deeply.

Since your Ist grader is just a young kid, have patience in all the situations and talk to him or her in a friendly and loving manner. It will help to sort out the problem easily.

Tutoring NYC: The Importance of Outlining Your Essays

Don't Let This Be You: Outline Before You Write

Don’t Let This Be You: Outline Before You Write

If you’re tutoring in NYC, one of the most important lessons you can give to your students is the importance of outlining an essay before you start to write it. While there are some super humans out there who can write an essay all in one go without careful planning, the rest of us will struggle if we try to write like this and the final product will be disorganized and rambling.

Here are just a few of the benefits of using an outline when you write essays:

Organization — If you want your essay to read like a carefully thought out and insightful piece that you put a lot of time into, one of the most important things is having it carefully laid-out so that the arguments flow in some logical order. If you’re writing without an outline, you’ll find that your thoughts won’t come onto the page in that sort of carefully collected manner, but if you plan before you write, you won’t have problems with this.

Saves Time — Another great thing about writing with an outline is that it allows you to break up the process of writing into a few manageable chunks of time instead of having to do the whole essay in one sitting. You can make your outline one day, add extra information and quotes on a second day, and then write on a third day.

Higher Quality Thinking — Because of the way that the outline allows you to break up the writing process, you’ll find that you spend more time thinking about your ideas and how they fit together and as a result, your final product will be more thought provoking and well thought-out than if you tried to write the entire essay in one sitting the night before it was due.

If you’re a tutor in NYC looking for new pupils, you can post a listing on HeyKiki and find some new students. If you’re looking for tutoring in your area, you can connect with a tutor on the site too. Best of luck with your academic endeavors!
