Boxing is one of the most admirable and popular sports in America. It originally came from Egypt, Rome and Greece. The game was brought to the country in 18th century, when Americans were ruled by the English. Being a lavish and rich sport, it came through the rich families from South England.

Early Stage of Boxing
Coming from England, the sport in its initial period was practiced to affirm the physical supremacy over others. It was a fun game where audience enjoyed fights between two people. At very beginning it was fought not with any gloves, but bare knuckles. There was no referee to stop misconduct. Before it became a registered sport, there was no proper ring, so people used encircle them and both the players used to fight brutally following the rule fight till one man was dead. Such events used to last for hours and hours unlike today that is played for limited period. Originally the boxers were not restrained from hitting, throwing and kicking. Few rules were maintained by the players.

Later on several rules were introduced to the game taking it to the next level as a specialized sport. The players were not allowed to hit below belt, they were not supposed to hit the opponent is down. It also includes 30 second rest time. Further down the line in 1866 the known boxer Marquis made it compulsory usage of gloves. He also asked to increase the time period to one minute and also additional recovery period of ten seconds after knockdown.
After going through these stages boxing has reached its current sophisticated stage where now the players can take it up professionally and in a successful manner.
