How to Start Your Own Yoga Class

Being a certified yoga expert, you may think of starting a yoga class of your own. Initially it may sound easy for you to start a yoga class. But there are many points to be considered first. However, if you plan out everything wisely, you may successfully start a yoga class of your own.

First of all consider the costs that will be incurred for opening of a class. It is because you will require some things to start a class. You will require a place, some mats, mirrors to furnish the yoga class, some props required for some specific yoga poses, etc.

Look for a venue which is appropriate for you in terms of cost, accessibility by students, etc.

Then consider a good and appealing name for your yoga class. You must consider such a name which may readily express motive of your yoga class.

You may also hire one or two yoga instructors to assist you in teaching yoga. Hire certified instructors only.

Furnish the yoga class with mats, mirrors and reception desk.

Advertise your class over the Internet, local newspaper, or through flyers. It will help you in getting more and more students.

Once students start coming, set times of various yoga classes during the day and put them in writing on a board in your class.

Tutor’s Guide: How to Talk to Parents

Healthy communication between a tutor and the parents of his tutees is quite essential. It will help to maintain good relations between the two as well as keep both sides updated about the development of the children. A tutor can effectively talk to parents of his tutees by keeping some points in mind.

Healthy discussion for a better future!

Healthy discussion for a better future!

You can arrange regular meetings with the parents to keep them updated about the growth and development of the child.

Keep your voice tone as smooth as possible. Also your body language should be appropriate for the situation.

Make parents aware of the strong and weak points through regular progress cards based on their regular performance.

You can also communicate through hand-written notes in case regular meetings are not possible due to one reason or the other. E-mail, live chatting or video conferencing are also good options.

You can also arrange special meetings for parents of all the students being tutored by you to discuss future plans for their children and give them suggestions too.

Good rapport between parents and the tutors is necessary because guardians send their children to tutors with the expectation that they will help them to improve in academics. Therefore it is the duty of the tutor to keep parents aware of the regular development of their children. There are some situations which can be handled with the joint efforts of parents and tutors to help a child to move forward in a better way.

In Defense of Defensive Boxing

Muhammad Ali won the Rumble in the Jungle by using his opponent George Foreman's weaknesses against him.

Muhammad Ali won the Rumble in the Jungle by using his opponent George Foreman’s weaknesses against him.

Boxing lessons can teach you how to fight and how to best train yourself for said fighting, but they can’t tell you what kind of fighter you’ll be. However, boxing is a sport of strategy, as much as it is a display of brute force and athletic power. And any good boxing lessons will help you learn that strategy, in turn helping you define yourself and your abilities as a fighter. The question is, do you want to use that strategy to fight offensively or defensively?

Consider what Muhammad Ali did in the Rumble in the Jungle – one of the most talked about techniques ever implemented in boxing history, which helped Ali win one of the most crucial fights of his career. He withstood punishment and took all the hits he could for a number of rounds, and when he opponent was finally weakened after wailing on him for all that time, Ali pounced and knocked out George Foreman, then the Heavyweight champion. (Ali then claimed the title of course.)

That’s not to say that boxing defensively is for everyone, or every fight for that matter. Ali won a number of fights through sheer aggression as opposed to endurance. But if you know you can’t knock your opponent out clean that easily, and if you need a little extra something to win, play defensively. Use the ring to your advantage. And know when to let your opponent beat themselves.

Piano Music to Inspire Your Piano Lessons

The Band was pretty much the coolest.

The Band was pretty much the coolest.

If you need inspiration for your piano lessons, a good song could end up being your new best friend. Listen around to enough music, and enough different kinds of music, and you can find so many different applications and uses of great piano playing that you’ll realize that the possibilities for your own work are endless. And if you need that little boost of inspiration for your piano lessons, here are a few song ideas to get you there.

Outro – M83

The piano solo in the final 40 seconds of this song is so beautiful it almost singlehandedly makes the Cloud Atlas trailer one of the best movies of 2012. Not one of the best trailers mind you – movies. And the rest of the song is pretty great too.

I Shall Be Released – The Band

The piano component of this seminal track off of Music from Big Pink is almost entirely background, but completely key to the construction of this incredible song (right up there next to Levon Helm’s amazing drumming, rest in peace).

Penelope’s Theme – Nathan Johnson and the Cinematic Underground

For this piece from the score of The Brothers Bloom, Nathan Johnson uses a simple theme to devastating effect, building the track around melodic motifs almost evocative of something like Peter and the Wolf. It’s no wonder then that it seems like this song tells a story in just under three minutes.

Life on Mars? – David Bowie

A classic, and for good reason. The piano on this Bowie tune seamlessly brings you into and out of the world of the song, while striking in for those moments of amazing, glam rock-y emotional crescendo that only Bowie could do so well. This is good stuff.

Boxing Lessons in NYC: How Raging Bull 2 Was Almost A Thing

The sad thing is, this was very nearly a reality.

The sad thing is, this was very nearly a reality.

If you’re feeling particularly excited about your boxing lessons in NYC, and in the mood to augment them with a good movie, you might feel like throwing on Raging Bull one of these days, and why not? It’s a perfect film, and a great boxing movie at that – a visceral, deeply heartfelt examination of an animal of a man, who cannot help but destroy everything he touches with the same fearless sense of self-destruction that helps him succeed in the ring. So of course, they were trying to make a sequel to it. Wait, what?

Yes, yes. Previously this summer, shooting began on what was once titled Raging Bull 2. It seemed unthinkable that such a concept could ever slip through all the necessary cracks – how did Scorsese or De Niro not stop this thing at some point down the line, considering how neither is involved? No one from the original film was, or is even, yet this is where it gets interesting. Jake La Motta, subject of the original Raging Bull, used his life rights as the subject for the sequel, yet MGM (the studio behind the original) has a contractural exclusive on La Motta’s life rights, thus enabling them to disavow the sequel as they did one month ago. And so like that, Raging Bull 2 became The Bronx Bull, and all association was severed.

If you’re in the mood for a great movie and a great boxing movie to toss on and use to get excited about your boxing lessons in NYC, just be glad that we have Raging Bull, and not the sequel. Besides, if it ain’t broke…

Piano Lessons in NYC: In Appreciation of The Pianist

Adrian Brody won his Oscar for good reason after turning in this incredible performance.

Adrian Brody won his Oscar for good reason after turning in this incredible performance.

You might not think that a Holocaust drama is the best way to get excited about piano lessons in NYC (or anything at all for that matter), and generally speaking, you’d be right. But then again, The Pianist isn’t really like most holocaust movies, or most movies for that matter. It’s not a testament or a tribute to heroism or sacrifice or anything like that – rather, it’s a movie about just how hard it can be to say alive and protect your own skin sometimes.

Adrian Brody is (of course) fantastic in the lead role, a Warsaw ghetto pianist who loses family members and darts around in hiding, happy to still be alive. Yet there’s a tragic, bittersweet heart to The Pianist that Brody helps evoke to life as well; a heart where music has the power to unite soldiers on either side of an occupation, and reveal an otherwise heavily masked shared humanity.

So if you’re feeling up to it – and believe us, we’ll understand if you’re not – check out The Pianist, and while watching a great movie that’s also not a bad history lessons to, you can see just how meaningful those piano lessons in NYC really can be.

A Guide to Reading Music

Sight reading is the ability to play a piece of music from page, without ever having rehearsed it before a similar process to that of an actor doing a cold reading of a play. By following some steps, you can become an expert in sight reading on the piano.

A Guide to Reading Music

A Guide to Reading Music

1. Practice as much as possible, sliding your hands smoothly so that you become familiar with the keys and find any note without looking at it.

2. A good technique is to always sit in the same place, preferably middle “D,” to help your fingers remember the keys.

3. You can further increase your responsiveness by practicing Finger skills without looking at your hands. Try playing your scales and arpeggios in the dark.

4. Get familiar with the four groups of Lines and Spaces so that you may ultimately learn all the notes.

5. While practicing, try sometimes focusing on rhythm rather than individual notes. It’s important to keep going even if you make a mistake.

6. Now try paying attention to the accurate pitches and accurate fingering only and ignoring the rhythmic portion. This will help you play the correct notes with the proper fingers. Finally, you will get skilled at playing the correct notes with correct fingering along with correct rhythm.

7. While playing the easy parts of a composition, you can move forward speedily without caring about the mistakes.

8. When you are playing a more difficult section of music, you should move slowly so that even minor mistakes can be avoided and maximum accuracy can be achieved.

9. Get skilled at practicing easy and difficult pieces of any composition. Planning how you practice will save time.

10. Get to know music theory.
