Spotlight: Clogging Dance

There are so many types of dance that no one is an expert in all the dances. One of the dances that is folk by origin is Clogging Dance. This form of dance originated in the Appalachian Mountains and then slowly spread all over USA. To put the clogging dance in the simplest form, it is tapping the feet in a particular rhythm according to the music. This itself makes it clear that feet and shoes are more important for this dance. In fact, clogging dance has played a vital role in merging different types of traditional step dances.

Though in the beginning, this dance was called clogging, later on colloquial terms like foot-stomping, clog dancing, and flat footing were used to refer to this dance. As shoes are the vital part of this dance, the soles were made of rough material initially. The dance is quite easy to learn but one has to be very careful about the foot movements as they form an essential part of the background music. Hence the steps should be carefully practiced to get the right output of sound.
