Scientist Composer Transforms Voyager Data into Piano Duet

Cosmic music production!

Cosmic music production!

A unique incident has happened which is related to the fields of science as well as music and has left audiences dumbstruck. An enormous scientific data which is as old as 37 years and generated by Voyager spacecrafts of NASA has been changed into a great piece of piano music.

It has been made possible by the talented musical manager named Domenico Vicinanza at the pan-European data network named Geant in Cambridge, UK. It is asserted to be the highly developed data network all across the globe. It has the capacity to cater to 50million research users located at 10,000 institutions. Domenico has a PhD in Physics and is also a trained musician. He produced this classical duet so as to find out a fresh way to symbolize data by using high-speed networks which are used by the scientific researchers.

Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 which were launched by NASA in 1977 have now been decommissioned. Even after decommissioning both these voyagers record as well as transmit live data to Earth. Domenico selected 320,000 measurements from each voyage at an interval of one hour so as to compose the spacecraft duet.

The proton counts were used by him from the cosmic ray detector from Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 from the last 37 years. The collected data was then transformed into two extremely long melodies each having 320,000 notes by using varying sampling frequencies. These frequencies ranged from few KHz to 44.1 kHz. As a result, a wide assortment of clear sounds was produced which lasted from few seconds to few hours. Various instruments and sound textures were used to symbolize the two spacecraft. This way a great piece of piano music was produced by a scientist.

Piano and Anxiety in Children

Happy piano playing!

Happy piano playing!

Piano is not only a musical instrument and is not just used to produce beautiful sounds, it is something more than that. It can be used to help children get rid of their anxiety. It is for this reason that music has a wonderful and positive effect on the mental set-up of a person. It helps in reducing anxiety and stress in children.

Children can give an outlet for their anxiety and stress by playing piano. They can express their inner feelings through the power of piano music. By producing some good notes, children can change their mood which has been spoiled due to anxiety or stress. Children can even produce some sad notes so as to express their anxious state of mind. When sad notes or such negative feelings get a free outlet in the form of piano music, the state of anxiety disappears naturally from the mind. It gives way to positive thoughts and feelings and helps a person and especially children to cope with anxiety and stress in a positive manner.

Piano helps in making the minds of children creative. Creative minds are less prone to stress and anxiety and hence it again helps in keeping such feelings and states of mind away from children. Piano playing requires great deal of focus and concentration and hence it helps in keeping distractions and sources of stress and depression away from children. By playing piano, children learn to concentrate deeply on everything being performed by them in their general life as well. It helps them to perform better in every field of life. This perfection automatically helps in dealing with the problem of stress and anxiety in children.
